The Event
At the dawn of a new decade, never before in the history of science have the different studies on language evolution, theory, acquisition, and processing become so intertwined with biology. This is a consequence of the fact that the last decades have started to unveil how the brain's physical, chemical and electrical structures underlie and affect different aspects of language cognition. So, after all, there must be biological adequacy in language studies and it takes an incredibly interdisciplinary team of researchers to face the endeavor of bridging sophisticated theoretical language research and language in the brain.
The Biolinguistic Workshop in Rio, dubbed BWR, brought about by CAPES-PrInt Program, selected key researchers in the field to bring momentum, discuss and exchange with local research teams at UFRJ, in Rio de Janeiro and in Brazil, the main themes related to Biolinguistics. We expect it will be a free, joyful and thrilling adventure, open to anyone and everyone interested in the field. Among lectures and oral presentations of 18 speakers, BWR features four mini-courses, with an option to be converted into credit courses for Graduate students, provided that these students take complement classes and an evaluation offered by the Graduate Program in Linguistics faculty, after the workshop is over.
